two crowes songs i am sharing

  • Dec. 30th, 2008 at 1:01 PM
Black Crowes at the Fillmore, Chris Robinson at the Fillmore, The Black Crowes - Chris Robinson
"I don't know my telephone number
But you kiss good and I'd like to
See you tomorrow
And I don't beg, I pay, I don't barter
And if we had a child I'd like a son,
Not a daughter
'Cause she'd be just like you
You know that would not do

I'm no builder, I'm no gardener
I sing some songs, have a friend
Who's a photographer
There ain't no other language
I know how to speak
Some like their water shallow
And I like mine deep
Tied to the bottom
With a noose around my feet

The clouds conspire
Above my head
I overheard them
Say I wish he was dead
Today the sunset
Burned my eyes
And in the next room I hear someone cry

I like to dress up like the jury
To eat like a king, to poke fun at clergy
To talk like dirt
To love you like tar
But never fall in too fast
With my north star
While you pull your hair out
I buy the drinks at the bar

The clouds conspire
Above my head
I overheard them
Say I wish he was dead
Today the sunset
Burned my eyes
And in the next room I hear someone cry"

~ "nonfiction" (studio version)

and

"I've been down
Cascading and blue without a sound
Now I've traded my black feathers for a crown
So feed me milk & honey
Lay me down
Lay me down
Look around
Show me holy places not yet found
Let's disappear and we'll hide underground
We'll get high and we'll feel safe & sound
It comes around arayayayound

You got my soul singing my soul singing
You got my soul singing my soul singing
You got my soul singing my soul singing
You got my soul singing my soul singing

Home bound
Tired of tired of running town to town
Tired of my heart turned upside down
Now my life's a smile not a frown
The sound
The sound

You got my soul singing my soul singing
You got my soul singing my soul singing
You got my soul singing my soul singing
You got my soul singing my soul singing"

~ "soul singing" (live at red rocks, 2006)

a christmas song that i actually like

  • Dec. 18th, 2007 at 4:43 PM
Amy "World Falls"
a few weeks ago, brandi carlile released a christmas-y song called "the heartache can wait." i liked it so much that i recorded it straight off her myspace so i could put it on my ipod. i offered it as a download for my friends' list. the volume was a bit whack, but it was better than nothing. today, "the heartache can wait" was released on itunes as a single. i encourage everyone who downloaded my janky copy to buy it on itunes. i encourage everyone who didn't download it for free to buy it as well. i am so glad to have a clean copy of this one. it's a miracle that there's a christmas song out there that i actually like!

IG promo, Indigo Girls black and white, Old IG
last october, the indigo girls did a phone interview with the KFOG (san francisco) morning show. i woke up early to listen to it, and even used my janky old cassette player to record it (thankfully, less than a month later, i learned about recording off internet streams). anyway, tonight, while doing a search, i found it MP3'd on the KFOG website. it's nothing special or new, but in the spirit of trying to archive and organize all of their radio interviews, i downloaded and saved it. if anyone cares to listen, you can download it here. it's very short, and not that exciting.

and omg, i am listening to KFOG's acoustic sunrise and the girls are on NOW!!! (yes, i know some of y'all have the constant pleasure of hearing your favorite band on the radio. i do not. and for me, this is big...). it's the holiday release of their cover of "get together."

thank god for the indigo girls...

Indigo Girls Despite our Differences
of course i am having perhaps the worst day of my life (yeah, i am putting my cat to sleep tomorrow. in terms of my own life, i can not think of a worst day). between trying to numb myself and bawling my eyes out, i needed a major distraction. thankfully someone on indigo vortex posted that the video for the indigo girls appearance on georgia public television is online. i tried tried tried to record the video, but of course my shitty program (which i am now getting a refund for) does not work. so in the interest of archiving it (because come on, it is me. i archive all of this shit), i recorded the audio. is there anyone out there who can record the video stream and upload it?! pretty please...

to watch the video, click here. then follow the links to "august 2007" and then to "indigo girls" (duh).

and y'all can download my audio recording here.

again, if ANYONE can record the video and upload it, i would be so grateful.

this is one of those days where i need my IG so so so so so bad.
Emily quack face
yesterday, emily saliers participated in a v-day event in atlanta. before the performance, emily and doria roberts appeared on atlanta and company, a local program. the video is on their website for a limited time (i can't provide a direct link, but just go to that site and click on "v-day atlanta" on the left hand side of the page. that will take you to the video.). i tried to record the video stream so i could upload it for y'all, but it didn't work. in the interest of archiving the interview, i did record the audio. it's an m4a (itunes) file. sorry, non itunes users. here's the link to download it:

emily saliers and doria roberts on atlanta and company - 26 sept 2007

i will re-attempt to record the video, but i sort of have a crazy day with the drama of prince of darkness being sick. i'll see what i can do, though.

unedited

Indigo Girls and Trina (Three5Human)
here is my unedited (as in "i don't know how to edit") recording of the indigo girls at today's austin city limits festival. thanks to a nice little program that [info]emilyevangelist pointed me to, i was able to record the video (and audio, of course). but because of all of the drama with my cat (if you are on my friends list, you know what i am talking about...), i spent the day running to and from the vet. so i had to start the recording a few minutes early and got some of ziggy marley's set (hence the need to edit). it is a VERY large file - over an hour of video. it works in windows media player, but as always, if it doesn't work on your computer, i won't be able to tell you why. ;)

three5human joins them on stage for a few songs, and that is awesome (great exposure for three5human!!!).

that said, download it and enjoy!

another show to download

  • Sep. 12th, 2007 at 10:00 AM
Indigo Girls Santa Monica (6 July 06)
high quality, tracked (yay!!!), mp3s (NOT m4as) from the indigo girls free show (w/ brandi carlile and special guests melissa ferrick and sara lee) in freeport, maine at ll bean. the show was on 18 august, and it drew about 10,000 people!

download the whole show here

again, thanks for finding this one, mike.

amy and emily talk to KPFA

  • Sep. 10th, 2007 at 6:41 PM
Amy Washington DC
during the power to the peaceful festival, not only was their set recorded, but amy and emily were interviewed by kpfa (indie radio station in berkeley). luckily, it was archived along with spearhead's entire set (i already uploaded the indigo girls/three5human set). anyway, i recorded and uploaded the interview. it's about six minutes long.

download the indigo girls @ power to the peaceful interview

i'm not going to upload and record the spearhead set, but if you want to record it/download it, you can do that here. also, if anyone is really tech saavy, the last few minutes of "tether" are at the beginning of the stream (i didn't include that in the interview recording because a) it's 1/2 a song and b) there is loads of other stuff, including amy goodman's speech, in between that and the indigo girls interview). so maybe someone can download the file that i posted yesterday (IG's set) and complete "tether." because let's face it, with trina's vocals added in, those last few minutes of "tether" are the best.

anyway, enjoy... i am off to pick up my power to the peaceful poster that i had laminated.
Me and Indigo Girls, Indigo Girls and Me
my friend mike recorded the indigo girls set live on KPFA (berkeley) yesterday. this set was from power to the peaceful in san francisco (duh, the most recent show that i attended). three5human's short set (including their brand new song, "just believe,") is also on there. it's a large file.

a few things:

  • this was recorded directly from the radio stream. therefore there is some DJ chatter.
  • "tether" is cut off at the end.
  • i am sure that an actual bootleg (ie no radio chatter) from the gig will surface soon.

indigo girls & three5human @ san francisco's power to the peaceful, live on KPFA

listening to the great memories from yesterday now...
  • a few months old, but excellent

    Amy "World Falls"
here's an old recording of "world falls" that amy played solo. no emily. nowhere. it's... interesting. different. my favorite lyrics (see icon) were cut out.

it's from a songwriters in the round at eddie's attic in decatur from 1990.

    IG on a podcast

    • Jul. 14th, 2007 at 9:21 PM
Amy Ray black Martin Indigo Girls
the indigo girls were recently on a podcast titled "earphoria." honestly, the interview itself is pretty good. the questions weren't *the best ever*, but so much better than "where did you meet?" and "who are your musical influences?" (they did talk about other music, but specific lyrics and songs). the biggest annoyance is that the background music is too loud. oh, and that they only used emily songs (and that "last tears" is the interviewer's favorite). an added bonus is that brandi carlile is interviewed right after the IG portion. the podcaster is a huge huge huge brandi fans. at least that's what she said. it makes sense that the buzzkill ("last tears") is her favorite.

    download it here

indigo girls are right at the beginning. followed by brandi.

in other news, i uploaded a few more photos (from sparks) to my flickr. they're not quite as good as the first uploaded batch, but i still like 'em.

amy ray on sierra club radio

    Amy indian native american
amy appeared on the sierra club's wekly radio program last week to discuss renewable energy, native communities, and the recent honor the earth tour. it is actually available via podcast, but i uploaded for those of you who don't have access to podcasts.

amy's part is first. oh, and she talks about "sugar tongue!"

    live brandi music

    • Jun. 26th, 2007 at 10:35 AM
    Amy "World Falls"
ok, let me start out by saying that NONE of this is commercially released. it's all live. and brandi carlile's booting policy is the same as the indigo girls'. so i have no qualms about sharing some live brandi carlile with y'all. these are from various shows including the moore show in seattle, the portland show at the aladdin (not her solo show, the one where she opened for indigo girls), and the seattle triple door show. eleyna recorded just about all of these, as she's a huge brandi fan. take what you want. and tell me what you take. and tell me what you think. the ones in italics are the ones that i highly reccommend!

    "hallelujah" (leonard cohen cover)
"closer to you/i saw a face"
    "what can i say" (unplugged!)
    "follow"
    "the story"
    "late morning lullaby"
    "cannonball" (w/ indigo girls)
    "wasted"
    "happy"
    "turpentine"
    "have you ever"
    "downpour"
"folsom prison blues" (johnny cash cover)
    "creep" (radiohead cover)

    low power fm

    • Jun. 24th, 2007 at 9:39 PM
    Amy Washington DC
amy and emily joined a confrence call on low power fm. they come in about nine minutes into it, but the whole thing is pretty interesting.

this is an issue that indigo girls have been working on for a while now.

    donwnload my upload.

the shit about clear channel is unreal. really, i hate them. seriously.

    pride, presents, etc

    • Jun. 24th, 2007 at 3:09 PM
    Amy "World Falls"
*sigh* so i am home from pride. thankfully. oh, i had fun. but i am near ready to pass out.

last night was... well, i am sure i had fun. i don't really remember much. i went to dyke march, i drank, i went to the castro, i drank, i walked around the city, i drank, i partied more, i drank. and i have no idea (aside from BART) how exactly i got home. but i love me a big ol' queer party. oh yes, i do.

today getting out of bed for the parade was HARD, but i managed to do it. sally and i had fun. we ended up going to eat, because i was hungover (slightly). i wore my big homo outfit (my rainbow sundress) and STILL got hit on by several hetero males. this shit happens to me at just about every gay event i attend. hello, i realize i am slightly femme and kind of look straight, but i am not. plus i was wearing my homo-fit (instead of outfit, get it?). whatever.

sally left, and i wandered around the festival for a bit (since i had not hit it up yesterday), flyering for the sparks (only 3.5 hours from san francisco!) indigo girls show. good times. talkin' up da girls.

now i am ready to crash. but before i do, i come bearing a pressie for y'all:

this is from one of the best moments of my life. i was truly shocked, and i'm not sure if i will ever get to that level of shock again (unless a certain "COLD AS ICE" song is played). eleyna recorded it. some fuckers were *talking*, but whatever:

indigo girls ~ "HAND ME DOWNS" (live, in portland, oregon, 16 july 2007)... the shocker of spike's life! (mp3)

holyshit. that's still all i can say for that. holyholyholyholyshit!

    happy pride, y'all!

    a present for pride

    • Jun. 23rd, 2007 at 11:26 AM
    Amy "World Falls"
i'm using pride as an excuse to give y'all a present (like i need an excuse!). eleyna sent this over to me. it's a recording of indigo girls playing "world falls" with brandi carlile from the portland show at the aladdin (ie the best show ever). she was having some issues with mic setup, but the sound quality is still pretty good. oh, and someone nearby her was *talking*. ummm, wtf is up with that?! but nonetheless, this is pretty great. y'all who are missing the dates that brandi opens can hear what you're missing! ;)

indigo girls (w/ brandi carlile) ~ "world falls" (my favorite song EVAH...)

    enjoy! and happy happy pride!
    A+E=IG
i recorded the indigo girls (w/ brandi carlile) interview on KBCO (boulder, colorado) earlier today. here is the itunes (m4a) file. i am uploading the wav now. if anyone wants it in wav format (LARGE file), just drop me a comment and i'll post the link (once that's ready).

indigo girls & brandi carlile on boulder's kbco, 20 june 2007

also, does anyone have the salt lake city setlist? yeah, i ended up deciding it would be insane to try to get home with only 12 hours to do so after the show, and skipped it. :(

"world falls" - amy ray (indigo girls)

i'm coming home with a stone, strapped onto my back
i'm coming home with a burning hope turning all my blues to black
i'm looking for a sacred hand to carve into my stone
a ghost of comfort, angel's breath to keep this life inside my chest

this world falls on me with hopes of immortality
everywhere i turn all the beauty just keeps shaking me

i woke up in the middle of a dream scared the world was too much for me
sejarez said, "don't let go, just plant the seeds and watch them grow"
i've slept in rainy canyon lands, cold drenched to my skin
i always wake to find a face to calm these troubled lands

this world falls on me with dreams of immortality
everywhere i turn all the beauty just keeps shaking me

now i'm running to the end of the earth
and i'm swimming to the edge of the sea
and i'm laughing i'm under a starry sky
this world was meant for me
    don't bury me, carry me

i wish i was a nomad, an indian, or a saint
the edge of death would disappear, leave me nothing left to taint
i wish i was a nomad, an indian, or a saint
give me walking shoes, feathered arms, and a key to heaven's gate

this world falls on me with dreams of immortality
everywhere i turn all the beauty just keeps shaking me
